Sugarloaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro
Sugarloaf Mountain known in Portuguese as Pão de Açúcar which translates directly as “Bread of Sugar” is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rising 396 metres above the harbor its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar. The mountain is one of several granite and quartz peaks that rise straight from the water’s edge around Rio de Janeiro.

A cable car runs between the peaks of Sugarloaf Mountain and Cara de Cão which was built originally in 1912. The 1st part of the journey goes to Morro de Açúcar, the 2nd car ascends to Sugarloaf Mountain.
