Roman Colosseum, Italy

Using your cell phone to call back to the US while you’re in Europe is made all the more worthwhile if you’re standing at the entrance to some of Europes greatest landmarks in the finest European Cities. This week we cover Romes (and 1 of Italys) most recognised landmarks – The Roman Colosseum.
The Roman Colosseum was made to contain fifty thousand when it was originally constructed between 70 and 72 AD – finally finished in 80AD. It was built with 80 entrance/exits for ease of access. The end result of all this combined made for a vast ellipse with the base of the building covering around an outstanding 6 acres.
The Colosseum was originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, located at the middle of Rome. This Roman construction is the largest of it’s type ever built. Since its construction it is considered one of the greatest works of their architecture and engineering by the Romans. The original name “Amphitheatrum Flavium” came from both family names who are associated with it’s construction (Vespasian and Titus).
It is able to hold over fifty thousand spectators, with the intention to be used for gladiator events and various public spectacles. While the building was used for several hundred years, for everything from bloody battles to the death, through to theatrical events, the building unfortunately ceased to be used for entertainment in the medieval period. It is currently in a state of disrepair due to damage caused by earthquakes and tourists/locals stealing and chipping stone away. Despite this it remains one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions and still has connections with the Roman Catholic Church.
Once you’ve felt how it would of been to be a gladiator (or perhaps a lion) inside the Roman Colosseum you’ll no doubt want to call back to the US to tell all your friends and family. The only solution to calling the US from Europe is using a EuroBuzz cell phone.
