The Museo del Prado or better known to the Americans as The Prado Museum, is a museum and art gallery located in the heart of Madrid. It is known to be one of the greatest collections for European art, including paintings, sculptures, coins, and various other objects and artifacts of art. Prado means meadow in Spanish. Featuring over 7,800 paintings, more than 5,000 drawings, 2,000 prints, 1,000 coins and medals, around 2,000 decorative objects, and 700 or so sculptures. El Prado is one of the most visited sites in the world, and one of the most visited tourist attractions in Spain and the World. This collection of art inside the Prado includes masterpieces by artists such as Bermejo, Berruguete, Coello, El Greco, Ribera, Zurbaran, Murillo, Cano, Velazquez, Goya, Lopez, Fortuny, De Haes, and De Madrazo.
The Prado Museum was commissioned in 1785 by Charles/Carlos III who used the architect Juan de Villanueva to envisage his dream. Very close to the Prado, the Villahermosa Palace houses the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, along with two other national museums; the Museo Arqueológico houses and the Museo Reina Sofía. These two museums supplement the Prado.
Once you’ve seen all of the wonders inside the Prado Museum you’ll want to call back to the US. The only solution to calling the US from Europe is using a EuroBuzz cell phone.
