The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin is one of the landmarks most associated with Germany. The Brandenburg Gate also being the national symbol of the country. The Brandenburg Gate was an infamous symbol of the division of Berlin and Germany where the Gate stood between East and West Germany. So when East and West Germany reunited the Brandenburg Gate became the symbol of the new re-united Germany.
The Brandenburg Commissioned by Friedrich Wilhelm and designed by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans in 1791. Landhans was inspired by the Acropolis in Athens for it’s creation. It was built as the grand entrance to the palace of the Prussian monarchs. After the peaceful reunification of Germany, the Brandenburg Gate refurbished in 2000 and is now one of the most visited landmarks in Germany and in Europe.
